Mobsters are smuggling guns into Hong Kong. The police orchestrate a raid at a teahouse where the ace detective loses his partner. The detective, acting from inside sources gets closer to the ring leaders, and eventually must work directly with the inside man.

Tequila is a "hard boiled" cop who loses his partner in a shoot-out with gun smugglers. In order to bring down the gun smugglers, Tequila must team up with an undercover cop named Tony, who goes undercover as a hired gun with a Hong Kong Triad, which is run by a vicious boss named Johnny Wong.

A hard-boiled Hong Kong detective (Chow Yun-Fat) who lost his partner in a gunfight teams up with an undercover cop (Tony Leung) in a powerful mob to stop the mob smuggling guns and killing innocent people.

Brace yourself for a hilarious action-filled ride with The Sword of Alexander! Based on a serial story by Yumemakura Baku, The Sword of Alexander (a.k.a. Taitei no Ken) is a rollicking period fantasy adventure, complete with ninjas, warriors, magical weapons, and a couple of aliens. With a host of colorful characters, impressive CG visuals, and genres colliding left and right, the film provides a sensory overload of comedy, action, and fun. Director Tsutsumi Yukihiko, last seen quietly inducing tears with Memories of Tomorrow, teams up again with Abe Hiroshi, the star of his Trick films, and puts the actor's natural comic presence to good use. Hasegawa Kyoko (Ai no Rukeichi) plays the film's precocious princess, alongside a supporting cast that includes Kudo Kankuro (Thirteen Steps), Endo Kenichi (The Sinking of Japan), and Kuroki Meisa (Under the Same Moon).

Free-spirited wandering swordsman Yorozu Genkuro (Abe Hiroshi) easily towers over everyone with his tall, lanky stature and all-mighty "Sword of Alexander". His larger-than-life sword is one of three sacred objects carved from orichalcum, an otherworldly metal that brings its owner superhuman powers. He who possess all three objects will rule the world, and Genkuro is on a quest to find the other two items - a cross and a dagger - and a man worthy of wielding such powers. On the road, he rescues and befriends the lovely Princess Mai (Hasegawa Kyoko), who is on the run from the Tokugawa, and her scrappy ninja bodyguard (Kudo Kankuro). This turns out to be the beginning of a myriad of troubles for Genkuro as there are a plentitude of Tokugawa assassins and warriors, not to mention an alien-possessed bear hunter, out to get the princess.

The biggest issue of contention is their daughter, Ikuko (Rio Kanno). Kunio accuses Yoshimi of being unstable, and he seems to have a point. Still, Yoshimi is awarded at least temporary custody of Ikuko. We see her finding an apartment for her and Ikuko to live in. They pick a less-than-ideal apartment, because it is affordable. Soon after, strange occurrences begin. Yoshimi's bedroom ceiling is developing a water stain. Mysterious puddles of water appear in different locations. An unusual item keeps appearing, despite attempts to discard it. Yoshimi periodically sees a strange girl, but only in glimpses. Ikuko begins acting oddly. On top of all this, Yoshimi is trying to go back to work, and she's having trouble balancing that with taking care of Ikuko. Things are spiraling out of control. Are the problems due to Yoshimi's divorce, or is there also something more sinister or supernatural going on? Despite Dark Water's relatively overt similarities to a number of other filmic works, this is one of director Hideo Nakata's most successful films--at least as good as his famed Ringu if not better. I came awfully close to giving Dark Water a 10 out of 10, and can easily see myself raising my score on subsequent viewings.
